These are just some of the wild creatures that await visitors to the new Universal Studios Beijing Resort，which officially opens September 20 following several delays due to the pandemic.

Made up of seven themed lands filled with 37 rides，it will be the world’s fifth Universal Studios theme park.It has many of the popular attractions found at its counterparts in Singapore，Osaka，Los Angeles and Orlando.But there are some Universal firsts as well，including the Kung Fu Panda Land of Awesomeness.

CNN spoke with several people who had a chance to visit as part of the pre-opening trial operations now underway.Visitors report that wait times could be high，while some shows were so popular it was impossible to get access.Among the most popular attractions are the scream-inducing Decepticoaster inside the Transformers area，and all the Harry Potter rides.The Jurassic World Adventure and the Minions simulator rides also attract long lines.

In spite of capacity being limited during the “pressure-testing” and soft opening period，wait times for more popular rides were well over an hour long during much of the day，CNN was told.“During trial operations，invited guests will experience selected rides，attractions，shows and dining services throughout the Universal Studios Beijing theme park on designated dates，” says a news release from the park.“Based on feedback and comments from invited guests，Universal Beijing Resort will look to adjust operational practices and service details in preparation for the upcoming grand opening.”

Though local media reported complaints that pre-opening invitations are being sold by scalpers，entry is based on real-name registration—visitors need to provide their names and ID numbers in advance and their faces are scanned at the main gate.

Built at an estimated cost of 50 billion yuan (US$7.7 billion) according to the Hong Kong-based SouthChinaMorningPost，the World’s first Kung Fu Panda Land has many attractions and restaurants designed to reflect the country’s cultural heritage.Guests who have been to the other Universal parks and want to experience something fresh will be most excited about the Kung Fu Panda Land of Awesomeness.With much of the area set indoors，it’s perfect for those wanting to beat the summer heat or，in a few months，the winter chills.

Guests of the park have two resort hotels to choose from—the Universal Studios Grand Hotel and the NUO Resort Hotel.Nearby is the restaurant-filled Universal CityWalk，which doesn’t require a ticket to enter.

Universal Beijing Resort is owned by Beijing International Resort Co.，a joint venture between state-owned Beijing Shouhuan Cultural Tourism Investment Co.and Universal Parks & Resorts，a business unit of Comcast NBCUniversal.

It’s an easy drive from central Beijing and near several expressways，while a dedicated subway station is now open as well.

I love holidays! There’s nothing better than jetting off to a foreign destination to visit the attractions it has on offer.Of course，I’m not alone.Millions of people are doing the same，and why not? The world has an amazing variety of must-see sights，from breathtaking natural scenery to impressive old cities.But the problem is that too many of us are visiting them at the same time，putting pressure on these delicate and ancient places.

That’s why a number of beauty spots and historic sites have been introducing charges or restrictions on the tourists who visit.There are many reasons for this: to reduce overcrowding，which can spoil the ambience of a place，to manage wear and tear on old broken buildings，to tidy up the mess that visitors leave behind，or—as some may suggest—creating tourist traps to make more money out of the visitors.

The famous Italian city of Venice with its picturesque canals has，for example，introduced an entry fee of up to 10 for short-stay tourists.Venetians have long complained that mass tourism is swamping the city.Now，passengers arriving by cruise ship will have to pay a “landing tax” which Mayor Luigi Brugnaro says，“would generate much-needed income to keep the city clean.”

Many cities in Europe already charge an occupancy tax on tourists who stay in hotels and guest houses.In the UK，Edinburgh is hoping to do the same，controversially making it the first city in the country to do so.This levy，that is usually charged per person per night ofaccommodation，raises money to help protect the environment，pay for infrastructure，or promote tourism.

In Italy’s capital city，Rome，new laws are being introduced to clamp down on bad tourist behaviour，which some argue is spoiling the look and feel of the city.Rules include banning drinking water from fountains and attaching “love padlocks” to bridges.

As more of us can now afford to travel，tourist destinations are going to get busier，so maybe new laws and taxes are going to be a necessary part of the sightseeing experience.
